HELLO,
I hope you are staying warm during this cold month. This is it, we are almost done with the year and I hope you are finishing up well for this semester and I know you will get out in the next few days. Be sure to do well on the end of six/nine weeks exams. Study and use pointers that you picked up over the summer and during the year. For those of you that we have received report cards from, I can see how much you have improved as compared to last year and that’s a great encouragement to us and I am sure to you too. It shows we are making some difference in providing you the skills and knowledge.
News & Information You Can Use
ICCP Assignment: You should have already started on this month’s activities. You are to do five community service hours for December through January 7th. I hope you have fun with this and that you use this opportunity to gain valuable skills that will benefit you in college and it will look very well on your academic resume.
We are conducting the 2008 Science Weakest Link Contest. We have started and the final round today. Make sure you go to WebCT and do the quiz for Round 1 of the contest, if you have not done so – in order to get credit for participating for contest. As mentioned in the previous email, the prizes include (Palm Pilot, Gift Card, 3 Ring Binder, and other prizes).
As a Reminder- The Weakest Link Contest Rounds are
Final Round 3- Dec. 18th 12:00 pm – Dec. 22nd 9:00 am, it’s between three exceptional students….we will see who wins.
Note: November stipends will be mailed in January (sorry for the delay)
2008 BNSF Technology Awareness Day
You received information regarding this day earlier this week. This year, BNSF Railway is offering a chance for Upward Bound Math & Science students to participate to win laptops, gift certificates or other prizes for their work on a website or graphic art design. Be sure to do the following to participate:
- First, I am asking you to read the information and return all papers (entry form) as soon as possible so that you will let us know you will be participating in web design or graphic art contest.
- Secondly, if you want to create a design to submit for the contest, please let me know and which one you want to do. The contest entry form can be faxed to us and your project should be worked and completed by January 17th. Be sure to send it in electronically or mail it in on time to us so that we can receive it by the deadline date. It would be great if several UBMS students are able to participate to win free laptops or other gifts. Let me know if you have questions.
Letter of Intent/Continuing Participant Form- Juniors Only
The Summer Letter of Intent for the program will be sent the first week of January and the deadline will be announced later. This is the way that you tell us that you are continuing with the program and attending next summer. You are not require to reapply to the program, but continue to participate until you graduate from high school. Be sure to fill out the intent form mailed to you and respond by the deadline date. All participates are expect to come for the 2009 Summer Residential Institute. If you do not respond, it will be assumed that you do not want to come for the Summer Residential Institute and your status with the program will be in jeopardy. I look forward to seeing everyone again!
2008 Bridge Program – Seniors Only
Seniors, the Bridge application is on the UBMS website. Be sure to get your application complete and to us on time. One VERY IMPORTANT ITEM: for all Bridge participants, you must apply to UT Arlington by February 1st, so that you can receive priority consideration for the freshmen scholarships. If you have not applied to UT Arlington, remember to do so and apply for summer 2009. As a reminder, the Bridge application deadline is January 30th and March 1st. Any senior is a good candidate for the Bridge program as long as you are in good standing and have completed academic year activities with the program. If you have missed or have not complete some ICCP activities, be sure to do so asap. Please contact us iwth any questions about the Bridge application process.
